Rough notes and drafts for an incompleted book concerning Japan's rapid development. Early chapters are relatively complete and deal exclusively with the work of Randolph Bryan Grinnan and his wife, Louisa Alena Leete Grinnan as missionaries of the Presbyterian Church in the U. S., at Kochi, Shiboku, Japan, and at Kobe, Honshu, Japan. Hilldrup's correspondence concerning his research is included.
